It consists of a series of brief biographies of many of the participants in the famous Westminster Assembly (1643-1649), which produced the grand statements of Presbyterian Protestantism (the Westminster Confession of Faith, the longer and shorter catechisms, the Directory for Church Government, and the Directory of Worship). Not only is it a 'who's-who', it is also a unique history of the Long Parliament era of English history. For those who admire the confessional statements but know little of their origins, this is a wonderful introductory volume.
This helpful book fills in gaps of the historical narrative of English Puritanism, a tradition that continues to impact evangelicalism.
