Jeremiah - A Commentary by Charles Feinberg – CCS and published by Classics Publishing.

At a time when Judah was sinking in degradation and living in defiance of God, Babylon was rising in power, replacing the mighty Nineveh at the dominant nation of the world. It was Jeremiah’s task to declare to the people and leaders of Judah that they only hope was to repent and turn to the Lord; otherwise they would be conquered and overrun by Babylon. Judah did not repent and the woeful predictions of Jeremiah became a reality.

Dr Feinberg’s commentary traces the events of Jeremiah’s prophesy with care and insightful understanding, and with his knowledge of the language and history of the Hebrew people, along with his familiarity with the word of God give him a confidence in writing that is caught and shared by the reader. He faces the critical problems with the text, but does not lose his sense of balance and purpose in dealing with them. Perhaps his best writing is in his treatment of the New Covenant, a theme that is the heart of Jeremiah’s “Song of Redemption” found in Chapters 30 and 31.
