The book of Esther is a unique book of the Bible in that it contains no mention of God whatsoever. Furthermore, no commentary was written on it for the first seven centuries of the Christian era, and not until the sixteenth century was a serious commentary of any lasting worth produced. Yet Esther is an extremely valuable book. In this commentary, Peter Bloomfield highlights in particular the covenantal nature of the book, the ongoing enmity between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman. Although God's name is never mentioned, his over-ruling power in working out his own plan and purposes, despite appearances to the contrary, is one of the main lessons of the book. Book jacket.
