Lady Huntington was closely associated with many revivalists and other Evangelists such as Isaac Watts, John Wesley, George Whitefield, Philip Doddridge and William Romaine. She dedicated her vast wealth and hospitality to the Evangelical cause.
Widowed by the death of her husband, the Earl of Huntington in 1746, Lady Selina Huntingdon (1707 - 1791) became a devout Methodist. Guided by her chaplain, George Whitefield, she founded several training schools for ministers, built sixty-four chapels and gave liberally to support Wesleyan clergy and congregations and was generally recognised as a leader of the Calvinistic Methodists.
