The Book of Genesis has been called "the stately portal to the magnificent edifice of scripture" and that saying admirably
describes the place which it holds in the sacred Canon. Studying Genesis leads the reverent worshipper into the presence, and unveils the power and divinity of the Eternal God. The great fundamental questions of the human mind - Who? When? How? Why? - are answered in Genesis, not exhaustively, but to a sufficient degree to give reason a foothold and the heart a resting place. Therefore when we approach the study of this Book of Genesis, these words are written to enable the believer to read and understand it with reverence and humility, recognising that here for the first time, the Lord God breaks the silence of eternity.
