This book arose out of a controversy over whether or not the Righteousness of Christ is different from or exactly the same as the Righteousness of God. In this dispute with the Plymouth Brethren, Robert Govett supplies copious scripture documentation to demonstrate that the righteousness of Christ is exactly the same as the righteousness of God and to think otherwise is contrary to the evidence of scripture. He also uses the writings of the Plymouth Brethren, especially those of Darby to show how they have misinterpreted the scriptural texts.
However the aim of the book is not to primarily cause disunity within the Body, but to show error and bring unity to the Body. The author is also willing to be shown if he has strayed from the truth and if he has is willing to be corrected because through correction a “great kindness” has been displayed towards him. The most important aspect of this work is that true will be read and Christ exalted.
