That the Hebrew’s name for “God” has a plural form – ELOHIM – offers two suggestions. The first is that He was perceived as combining in Himself all the powers and attributes, so far as they were worthy, which the heathen distributed over this numerous deities; second, that the one true God is variously and progressively apprehended under different aspects.
The sacred records show us enlargement of the vision through its writings with increase of faith and consequently, a development of His character and nature. And it is through the studies of the Names of God, than the character of our God can be clearly seen. As you prayerfully consider the words of this book, it is the author’s prayer that the Lord will reveal Himself anew as the Lord Jehovah, – the God who will be to His people all that His people need.
