For many people, the Old Testament is a dry book, especially to those who do not see the multitudes of types recorded in this part of the Bible. Yet many difficult doctrines of the New Testament are made much clearer in all their depth and glory as the light of the “type” is thrown upon them. However we must NEVER build a doctrine on a type’ but once a doctrine is established it can be illustrated and easily understood by the use of types.
That we do have Scriptural warrant for the use of types is clear from 1 Corinthians 10:11. In that chapter Paul had been referring to the experiences of Israel in the wilderness and concludes by saying “all these things happened unto them for ensamples [types] and are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world [ages] are come.”
