Parables of Matthew 13: History of Professing Christianity by Benjamin Wills Newton.
The subject of the Book of Daniel is the secular history of the Gentile Empires in their relation to Jerusalem and not the history of Christianity. Matthew 13, with its seven Parables, provides the most important example of what the professing Christian church should be like throughout history. The object of our Lord in this chapter is as He says Himself to teach us respecting the "mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven," that we might as scribes well instructed, able to bring out of our treasures things "new and old."
