Since Spurgeon's death in 1892 a number of books of his quotations have been published. The distinctive feature of this book is the brevity of the quotations which do not exceed one sentence in length. The quotations are arranged under 119 different topics in alphabetical order. In selecting the quotations an attempt was made to include only those which set forth pertinate Biblical truths in a vivid and unique way.
A brief statement of truth can sometimes grip the mind's attention in a way that a longer explanation can't accomplished. For this book the term "one-liner" could be defined as one sentence quotation even though some sentences are longer than what would ordinarily be considered as one-liners.
